Bursera fagaroides- Mexican Frankincense
Bursera fagaroides, also known as Mexican Frankincense, is an easy to grow caudiciform shrub distinguished by its swollen, chunky trunk, peeling reddish bark, and fragrant stems and foliage. A very forgiving plant, it prefers temperatures between 70-90 degrees, but can tolerate a light frost. Native to the southern states and Northwestern Mexico including Baja, California, it prefers to be grown in full sun with moist, fertilized soil for growth from 2-6 feet. A great bonsai specimen with greenish white flowers followed by hard green berries that split open to expose bright orange seed.
