Melocactus levitestatus v. rubrispina
From Bahia Brazil, it is one of the larger growing species of Melocactus with a solitary globose stem that is bluish green to gray and covered in reddish spines.
Its nickname, "Turk's Cap," is derived from the cottony cephalon it produces when mature. It also produces pinkish white flowers and fruit.
Many of the Melocactus are tropical and they have the ability to handle more water than a standard cactus.
This variety in particular has noticeably darker spines.
