Known as the twin spine pachy, it is one of the African species that is very similar to Pachypodium succulentum in growth and habit.
Although both occur within the same locality range, the main differences can be found in the flowers. While succulentum's flowers are pink and white with a long thin tube and flat face, bispinosum has small, bell shaped, white petaled flowers containing a purple tube.
It also differentiates from succulentum in that it has thicker and more numerous branches. In addition, it seems to be more cold sensitive. It produces a large subterranean root/caudex like a turnip that can be lifted.
